The Bel Alton Alumni Community Development Corporation serves the low-income residents of Bel Alton. County services that are designed to help residents and communities achieve self-sufficiency and economic development are primarily located in the northern and more suburban area of the County.
Demographic data from the 2000 Census shows clearly that the target population in the Bel Alton service area ranks lowest in all of the indices used to determine an area's socioeconomic status. The Bel Alton service area lacks all of the physical, economic, social and financial resources that exist in the northern end of the County, from La Plata, the County Seat, to Waldorf, a growing urban community.
